6 Weeks In

Updated: Jul 31, 2021

Ryton is now 6weeks old and we have had our ups and down, ins and lots of outs. He knows what he likes and doesn’t. He has all of us women wrapped around his little finger. If he squeaks, we try and fix his problems. They say you can’t spoil a newborn and we are living that way to the fullest. I wanted to write down some of his memorable moments so I can come back here, read the memories that I thought were funny or adorable and make myself smile years down the line.

The first thing that I want to note is that Ryton loves music and not just any music, he loves Phantom of the Opera. He can be crying his head off and as soon as you turn on Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butlers duet, put a dummy in his mouth, and dance with him, he calms right down and will fall asleep. I, myself, love The Phantom of the Opera movie and don’t mind the opera notes being used multiple times a day, if it’s a bad day. Not only do I have to resort to this tune but it is even more effective if I wind up singing alongside the professionals. Although this is quite an amusing sight, when you are resorting to this technique at 2 in the morning, you are grateful that the rest of the house is either losing their hearing, or has taken their hearing aids out for the night.

Ryton was very colicky and struggled a lot with gas. When we talked to our paediatrician she said not to take anything but instead watch what you eat. So I did and sometimes it helped and sometimes it didn’t. 6 weeks was our climax point of his colick. After that is when he started being able to put out his poop and learned to grunt in the process. I never thought I’d laugh so hard at a man grunting out his poops but it is adorable.

These first few weeks were very rough but it has passed by and now my little boy is already so big!
